PICE - 8001 - Bootcamp-MS4 transitioning to Residency

This is an immersive interdepartmental capstone course utilizing high fidelity simulations, standardized patients, and small group workshops to help fourth year medical students increase confidence in medical decision making, transitions of cae, and clinical reasoning during high stress patient scenarios.  Annually, fourth year medical students are immersed in a two week boot camp experience where they address scenarios interns commonly face in both the inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic settings.  The students are tasked with assessing complex patient presentations and developing diagnosis specific assessment and treatment plans.  The experience is superimposed with activities to hone each student’s ability to select appropriate medications, order and analyze a diagnostic workup, and efficiently communicate hand-offs and write patient notes.  Additionally, specific sessions are included to target survival skills for residency such as time management and wellness.  The principles of quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, professionalism and medical ethics are intergrated throughout the course.

Credit Hours: 2
