PINT 8004 - MICUThis clerkship utilizes patients admitted to the intensive care unit. The student will gain experience in managing common medical emergencies, including cardiopulmonary arrest, drug overdose, hypertension, acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, congestive heart failure, renal failure, and diabetic ketoacidosis. The student is also expected to become proficient in the evaluation and management of common chest problems, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pleural effusions, perioperative complications, pneumonia, atelectasis, respiratory failure, pulmonary function tests, and chest x-rays, and to become familiar with the various types of mechanical ventilators, oxygen delivery systems, and methods of delivering inhaled medication. Limit 2 Students. (4 weeks)
