Medical School Curriculum and Educational Policy


The Curriculum and Educational Policy Committee (CEPC Web page)

The CEPC has the authority to set educational policy; establish education requirements; establish and approve curricular content; ensure curricular integration, coordination and coherence; allocate curriculum time; establish teaching and assessment methods; and evaluate educational outcomes or the organization of the curriculum with the concurrence of the Dean and with comment and input from the Faculty Council. The Faculty of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine has the responsibility to define course objectives, create and deliver content to meet those objectives, and modify their activities in response to appropriate feedback from peers and students. The Committee will provide updates on its activities at least twice a year to the Faculty Council. In order to accomplish the mission of the Committee, the Chair may appoint subcommittees that can include members who are not members of the Committee. It shall be the responsibility of the Committee to coordinate the activities and reports of these subcommittees.

  • Grade Appeal and Complaint Policy

“This policy defines the process for medical students to file an academic appeal or complaint regarding their educational record/s, including the Medical Student Performance Evaluation, if they feel that the content is inaccurate, misleading or inappropriate.”

  • Grade Changes & Transcript Notations

“This policy establishes guidelines for the approval of grade changes and for the use of grade notations, including conversion of a temporary grade (DE, I, PR, or X) to a final grade. This policy also establishes that a final grade of HO cannot be achieved through the successful resolution of a temporary grade of DE (as defined in HSCEP OP 59.05 Grading Procedures and Academic Regulations )”

“The purpose of this policy is to identify mechanisms for reporting of student mistreatment in the context of routine curricular and co-curricular settings and circumstances; to delineate reporting procedures; to be transparent regarding the institutional response to reports of student mistreatment; and to ensure that no retaliation is experienced by those who report mistreatment in good faith.”

“This policy is intended to promote timely progression, preserve curricular integration, and to ensure appropriate stewardship of student financial aid and tuition funds.”

  • Leave of Absence and Delay of Graduation for Research

“This policy is intended to codify our established practices, consistent with LCME accreditation and existing institutional and school policies regarding the ability of a student to participate in research outside of TTUHSC EP, PLFSOM as it relates to the “six-year rule” for completion of the MD program. This policy works in conjunction with HSCEP OP 77.05, Student Leaves of Absence and Suspensions, the Grading, Promotion and Academic Standing Policy (GPAS), and the Common Clerkship Policies. Students should understand that completion of the MD program must be completed in six years, inclusive of all leave of absences.”
