All students are responsible for knowing and uderstanding policy established by the institution and their academic program. Below is a listing of some of the most commonly referenced institutional policy. Criminal Background Check Policy (HSCEP OP 10.20) (Reporting Arrests)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to establish a standardized approach to student and trainee background checks for the respective schools and training programs of TTUHSC El Paso. Where Texas licensure boards have specific requirements, they will supersede this OP and will be described in the respective School student handbook.”

Leave of Absence Policy (HSCEP OP 77.05)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to ensure understanding and a standardized approach regarding interruptions in student enrollment. This HSCEP OP applies to all schools of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso, also referred to in this policy as the University).”

Mandatory Health Insurance Policy (HSCEP OP 77.22)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to outline the health insurance requirement for TTUHSC El Paso students.”

Identification / Access Badges (HSCEP OP 76.02)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to establish the policy on identification/access badges.”

Bring Your Own Device Policy (HSCEP OP 56.06)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to (a) establish policies for the use of personal electronic devices by TTUHSC El Paso students and residents and (b) ensure that students and residents have appropriate access to relevant data and services as required by their school(s) and academic program(s) while pursuing acceptable use of data according to all regulatory requirements. This policy also outlines student and resident regulations and policies related to the storage, transmission, and use of institutionalprotected data and services. As authorized users of TTUHSC El Paso Information Technology (IT) resources, students and residents are also responsible for compliance with all other IT-related TTUHSC El Paso operating policies.”

Credentialing and Monitoring of Visiting Students (HSCEP OP 59.06)

“The clinical, research, classroom, and other academic activities and resources of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso, also referred to in this policy as “the institution”) are valuable, limited, and entrusted to the institution by the State of Texas to be managed in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. In addition, these activities and resources frequently involve activities, resources, and settings that are sensitive, secure, and/or confidential. In this context, the purposes of this TTUHSC El Paso operating policy and procedure (HSCEP OP) are:

• To ensure the appropriate monitoring and oversight of all persons participating in TTUHSC El Paso programs

• To ensure appropriate allocation of the institution’s resources in support of its programs and mission.”

Non-Employee Incident/Injury Procedures & Reporting (HSCEP OP 75.14)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to establish procedures for responding to and documenting incidents involving and/or injuries incurred by persons on TTUHSC El Paso property including, but not limited to, visitors, patients, volunteers, and students in non-clinical areas. Incidents/injuries occurring in TTUHSC El Paso clinical areas and TTUHSC El Paso students performing practicum clinical training at other locations shall continue using the:

School of Medicine Ambulatory Clinic Policy, Occurrence Reporting. http://elpaso.ttuhsc.edu/opp/_documents/75/op7514b.pdf This policy applies to all TTUHSC El Paso campus locations.”

Health Surveillance / Infection Control / Immunizations /Exposure (HSCEP OP 75.11)

“It is the policy of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC-El Paso) to maintain a health program that conforms to the guidelines and recommendations established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Texas Education Code and the Texas Administrative Code (TAC). This program is directed toward primary prevention, early detection, and diagnosis of exposure- related illnesses. The program targets those who (1) have contact with patients and/or human body fluids/tissues, (2) work in the Laboratory Animal Resource Centers (LARCs), or (3) work with animals or infectious materials in any laboratory.”

Student Drug Screens (HSCEP OP 77.15)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) outlines that students enrolled in clinical programs are entrusted with the health, safety and welfare of patients. The safety and welfare of patients cared for by TTUHSC El Paso students is of primary concern in all TTUHSC El Paso clinical programs and its contracted affiliated entities that provide essential clinical experiences for TTUHSC El Paso students. Clinical rotations are an essential component of TTUHSC El Paso programs, and in conjunction with those clinical rotations, TTUHSC El Paso must also satisfy contractual obligations with those contracted affiliated entities, which may include student drug screening before commencement of clinical rotations.”

N-95 Respirator Usage Policy (HSCEP OP 75.12)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to provide guidance in the voluntary use of N-95 respirators and to promote compliance with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines supporting the use of N-95 respirators for protection from various diseases and conditions.”

Credit by Exam Policy (HSCEP OP 77.07)

“The purpose of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to establish credit by examination requirements for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso). This HSCEP OP applies to all TTUHSC El Paso schools.”

Textbook Policy (HSCEP OP 77.02)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to ensure that students have access to affordable course material by decreasing costs to students and enhancing transparency and disclosure with respect to the selection, purchase, sale, and use of course materials.”

Student Travel Policy (HSCEP OP 77.08)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) is to help minimize the risks of liability connected with motor vehicle travel by TTUHSC El Paso (“University”) faculty, staff and students. This HSCEP OP regulates any travel undertaken by one or more students presently enrolled at the University to an organized activity or event that is located more than 25 miles from the University or traveling abroad. This operating policy applies to any approved event or activity which is initiated, organized, sponsored and/or funded by the University, is undertaken using a vehicle owned or leased by the University or is a required event or activity by a University registered student organization. This HSCEP OP does not create a claim or cause of action against University or its employees, and University retains all defenses to any such action including, but not limited to, sovereign immunity. Modes of travel by students to events or activities as defined above include: 1. personally-owned vehicles 2. commercial vehicles, including but not limited to rental cars, vans, and chartered buses 3. commercial airlines 4. use of University-owned vehicle”

Observation of Religious Holy Day and Requests for Religious Accommodation Policy (HSCEP OP 77.12)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy/Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to create a standardized approach to handling student absence for observance of a religious holy day(s).”

Concealed Handguns Policy (HSCEP OP 10.30)

“The purpose of this Health Sciences Center El Paso Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to establish clear regulations regarding the carrying of concealed handguns by license holders, on or about their person, on the campus of TTUHSC ELP or on premises located on the campus of the institution.”

Social Media Policy (HSCEP OP 67.03)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to establish policy on the use of social media for all institutional-affiliated accounts, including, but not limited to TTUHSC El Paso departments and student groups, Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso department and physician accounts and Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic. The absence or lack of explicit reference to a specific social media site does not limit the extent of the application of this policy.”

Consent & Release to Use Image or Information (HSCEP OP 52.15)

“The purpose of this Health Sciences Center Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to establish a standard in obtaining faculty, staff, student, visitor or patient consent and release for TTUHSC EP to use the image(s) and/orinformation.”

Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy & Complaint Procedure (HSCEP OP 51.02)

“Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer and is committed to compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations; providing and strengthening an educational, working, and living environment where students, employees, and visitors are free from any form of unlawful discrimination; and fostering and supporting a culture of mutual respect and communication. Title IX & Sexual Misconduct (HSCEP OP 51.03)

“Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) is committed to providing and strengthening an educational and working environment where students, faculty, staff, and visitors are free from sex discrimination of any kind. Accordingly, TTUHSC El Paso prohibits discrimination based on sex and sexual misconduct, including but not limited to sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. The purpose of this Operating Policy/Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to (1) state TTUHSC El Paso’s requirements for reporting incidents of sexual misconduct; (2) state TTUHSC El Paso’s policy on sexual misconduct; (3) implement electronic reporting protocols for such incidents; (4) develop a comprehensive sexual misconduct prevention and outreach program; (5) establish penalties for noncompliance with this HSCEP OP; and (6) provide amnesty or immunities to students and employees who report incidents of sexual misconduct.”

Accessibility & Accommodations for Students with Disabilities (HSCEP OP 77.14)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to outline the procedures for establishing reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.”

Standards of Conduct & Ethics Guide (HSCEP OP 52.06)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy (HSCEP OP) is to support the TTUHSC El Paso Institutional Compliance plan (HSCEP OP 52.01) which is based upon federal and state laws and regulations, including Texas Executive Order RP36, and the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents of the Texas Tech System (TTU System or Regents’ Rules) and HSCEP OPs.”

Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (HSCEP OP 77.10)

“The purpose of this Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Operating Policy and Procedure (HSCEP OP) is to establish the policy for obtaining student financial responsibility agreements for TTUHSC El Paso students in order to comply with enrollment reporting regulations established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.”
