Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine Student Affairs Mission


The Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine Office of Student Affairs is dedicated to serving as a supportive advocate and mentor for dental students, aiding them in their personal, academic, and professional endeavors as they navigate their dental education and career paths. Our commitment lies in fostering a positive learning atmosphere that both challenges and empowers our students to embody the core values of our institution.

WLHSDM Student Affairs Goals

  1. The WLHSDM Office of Student Affairs aims to instill in students’ coherent values and ethical standards, which they can apply in their interactions with peers, faculty, staff, patients during clinical experiences, and in their professional careers post-dental school.
  2. Aligned with the WLHSDM standards, the Office of Student Affairs sets and communicates high expectations for students, fostering an environment conducive to achieving success.

  3. By articulating the mission, vision, and values of the WLHSDM, students are guided to adhere to and accomplish the established guidelines.

  4. The WLHSDM Office of Student Affairs contributes to the approval of partnerships within the TTUHSC El Paso community and externally, enhancing educational opportunities to promote student learning and awareness.

  5. The WLHSDM Office of Student Affairs develops and implements evaluation plans, incorporating feedback from students to enhance both student and institutional performance.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees. The TTUHSC El Paso Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine received full approval of the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) doctoral program from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) in October 2019. The TTUHSC El Paso Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine was granted initial accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) as of February 2020. The next full site visit took place during the 2022-2023 academic year. The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) is an independent organization but tied to the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). It is a recognized organization by the United States Department of Education to accredit dental schools both within and outside the United States to American standards.
